Tara Road residents all set for new homes

Over 4000 residents attended the unveiling of plans for the KZN Housing Departments multimillion rand South Durban project in Wentworth on Tuesday.

Residnets to be relocated currently live opposite the Engen Refinery.

They will be relocated to a new housing project by the end of the year. Housing MEC, Mike Mabuyakhulu, attended the event, accompanied by eThekwini Mayor, Obed Mlaba and Deputy Maor Logie Naidoo, and other dignitaries

Community mourns charity fundraiser

Tributes poured in for tireless charity fundraiser Krishna Naidoo(82) who passed away last week.

Asherville resident Naidoo was well known as a tireless fundraiser and philanthropist for many charities. He passed away at Durban's Nu Shifa Hospital last week as a result of a heart attack following a short illness.

Naidoo raised hundreds of thousands od rands for the construction of the Saiva Sithantha Sungum's temple and community hall, a project that took spiritual head Guru Krishna Naidoo

Finalist to Star on Zee Television

At least three outstanding performers are currently being considered for the Zee Motion Pictures Audition by Zee TV director, Rajeev Khoror from Dubai, who was present at a glittering function organised and directed by Pinkz Production under the leadership of Pinky Mothie.

His speech to a packed audience in City Hall last Saturday was well-received and he acknowledged that the SA Bollywood Idols National Finals were of an international level.

The high standard of the entire production, with sixty performers showcasing their talents to TV cameras and a packed audience, kept the crowd spellbound. The entire stage, extended stage and a built-up ramp was used in colourful dance sequences choreographed by movie star Rajiv Mothie, who studied the art of choreography in India.

Uday doesn't want to play second fiddle

Uday Chopra's no hero material. Despite the backing of Yash Raj films, his father Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra, he hasn't been able to do anything for his career.

So maybe in order to prove himself he went ahead and signed an outside film 'Hook Ya Crook', with David Dhawan.

But he changed his mind way too soon, he's out of that movie too and Shreyas Talpade has taken his place.

According to sources, Uday has decided to opt out of the movie as he didn't want to play second fiddle to John Abraham, the lead actor of the movie.

Deepika is just another girlfriend in Ranbir's life

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone came together quietly under dramatic circumstances more than a year back.

They have been officially seeing each other for a while but there have been some uncertainties.

Of late there have been talks about Ranbir getting close to his new co-star Katrina Kaif and Deepika being spotted with some mystery man.

Neetu Singh has recently said, "Deepika is just another girlfriend in Ranbir's life. Both of them are very young.

MF outlines party plans at rally

A lively crowd of 2000 packed Greenbury Hall for the Minority Front "Celebrate Rajbansi" concert on Sunday.

Leader of the MF, Amichand Rajbansi emphasized very strongly that the MF catered for all sections of the south african community and that never before in history has South Africa needed a South African voice for minorities.

Design on 2010

Artistic Durbanities responded enthusiastically to a call from the eThekwini Municipality to design a host city poster for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Host City Design Competition.

More than 150 entries were received and judged by a panel from the local Durban arts community and eThekwini Municipality, who awarded a winner and second and third places respectively.

Winner Lindy Peizl, a graphic design student from the Durban university of Technology, won R20000 cash and the opportunity to see her work on display in the city. She was absolutely delighted that her art work had caught the eye of the judges.

Rewarding great taxi drivers

Taxi drivers and their assistants en route Merebank and Austerville will be given a chance to showcase their good deeds in public commuting.

Merebank ward councillor Ebrahim Shaik, together with the crisis care line, started the initiatives to encourage taxi drivers to create a good liason relationship with their communters. This venture is long overdue as there have been numerous complaints from users of the public transport service about taxi drivers and their conduct. Every month, the community will nominate drivers and their assistants who they think are doing a good job for the community. Forms can be obtained from Cllr.Shaik's office. Shaik has urged the community to participate because they are the ones es using this form of transport and they know the drivers well enough to nominate the ones they think have what it takes to win.
