Liquor outlets given festive season warning

An SAPS Designated Liquor Officer, Inspector Joe Jagethpersad, has issued a stern warning to liquor outlets to adhere to the license provisions of their outlets especially during the festive season.

It has been noticed that, in the past, outlets failed to adhere to opening and closing times of trading as well as closed days in terms of the Liquor Act. It has also been noted with concern that the outlets do not adhere to the age restriction and allow under-eighteens on their premises.

“Violation of the law by liquor outlets will be dealt with harshly this festive season and illegal gambling machines will be identified and confiscated using the latest hi-tech device.

Education department to investigate exam cheats

Two matric pupils caught cheating in their final examinations last week will be given the opportunity to be heard at an investigation by the Department of Education.

Spokesperson for the department, Mbali Thusi, revealed that Education MEC, Ina Cronje, issued a stern warning to all candidates that cheating would not be tolerated.

Thusi said that if the candidates in question were found guilty, they stood to be barred from writing examinations for a minimum of one year or a maximum of three years.

Furthermore, their results for the economics exam will not count. Thusi stated that their officials continue to be vigilant to ensure that cheating is hindered.

Settlers Primary School R 10 000 richer

Settlers Primary School Merebank became R10 000 richer on Wednesday 29 October when a team from a old Mutual headed by Sathi Moodley visited the school to hand over the cheque.

According to Moodley, this is in line with the company's Community Builder Programme in which funds are set aside by the company to assist those who are in need in various communities. He said all the communities irrespective of race are assisted. "We know that there is a need in every race group.

Did the Earth move?

After convincing predications of a local religious leader from Watersmeet, who predicated that a huge earthquake would hit parts of Kwa Zulu Natal in 13 days, the province did not "fall to its knees".

Staff of Tabloid Newspaper, however did fall- they fell victim to irate callers from across the province who expressed their outage at the story. The article became the topic of conversation across the province and even featured on local and national radio. He is using name of the God in vain and scaring the people of KZN," saod one caller , who wished to remain anonymous .

King akshay's multicrore house!

Akshay Kumar is going bigger by the day!

Most of his movies have hit the bulls eye and his market price has shot up. He's also got the new title of King Kumar!

Never mind the fact that most of his movies have been senseless fares and he has just got plain lucky with so many of them raking in the moolah!

The result of it all is that Akki can have anything and everything he wants. He had reportedly long wanted a house in Bandra and is all set to make his dreams come true.

The actor will shift to his new plush 4k square feet duplex in Bandra soon which has cost him a whopping Rs 8.5 crore! It is located near Turner Road, overlooking the Guru Nanak Park.

Ants attack Aamir in bed

Aamir may be giving Shah Rukh Khan sleepless nights presently what with his taunting comments on him but he had to spend a sleepless night recently.Aamir says, “Few days ago I had a very bad night. After a long day at work, went to bed at around 3am. Couple hours later, deep in sleep I had this vague feeling of being bitten on my ear.

Gradually I was being bitten on my stomach, legs, neck. I was so sleepy that I just kept cursing, scratching, turning and tossing. Finally it got really unbearable, and I kind of woke up…… TO SEE MY BED FILLED WITH ANTS!

There were hundreds of them! Crawling all over and giving me hell. I’m feeling scratchy all over just recounting it. Had to jump under the shower and then went and crashed on my couch.

Lara to do a voice-over for the animated film!

A while ago, we had reported about Akshay kumar and Dimple Kapadia lending their voices for an animated flick Jumbo.

Now, news has it that Lara Dutta would also be doing a voice over for the same.

This is the first time that the beautiful actress would be associated with an animated film surprisingly, Lara has agreed to lend her voice free . The actress apparently loved the film when she watched it and immediately decided that she would want to be a part of it.

City buses up and running again

Buses have been operating normally in City as of Monday according to Remant Alton.

This comes after the company recently stopped their operation due to strike action which left hundreds of commuters throughout the eThekwini Municipality stranded for weeks.

According to reports, the buses began operating as early as 4 AM on Sunday followed successfully negotiations between Municipality and Remant Alton which led to the latter agreeing to reinstate the dismissed employee without imposition of any disciplinary action.
